Evive is an open-source embedded platform for all age groups to help them learn, build, debug their robotics, embedded and other projects. With an Arduino Mega at it’s heart, evive offers a unique menu-based visual interface which removes the need to re-program the Arduino repeatedly. We are gonna see what all evive has to offer as a prototyping platform plus explore its aspects that may have room for improvement.
Evive offers an impressive list of features that range from bluetooth & Wi-Fi capabilities to a mini oscilloscope.(For a full list check out the specs at the official evive page by clicking here.) Moreover a lot of functionalities have been provided with the on board TFT screen and the pre-programmed functions to drive motors-both servos & stepper- along with beta function generators. The mini-breadboard is a nice quirk to have since it does ease up the work while working on a project. Supporting 5V-30V external power input as well as 2600mAh in-built battery offer the user flexibility with the power source. The compact size makes the platform pocket-friendly and with Arduino mega, there are a lot of possibilities to be worked out in the field of IoT using evive.
However, there are certain areas that could use a little work, such as the casing labels that could be improved far better with little to no effort. The openings of the ports provided in the casing to attach the various plug and use peripherals also need a little readjustment to allow for a smoother attachment. The internal connections from battery to board could use ribbon cables instead of jumpers used presently and it would vastly improve the performance while using motors if power supply to drive motors was being provided independently.
All in all evive does provide hobbyists and makers a ready-to-use prototyping platform that reduces a lot of the hassle of beginning each project from scratch. Check out our video on evive below. Interested in getting evive and seeing for yourself ? Order here and till next time, happy making!
